Mobility Lifts Types and Their Features and Functions

The key to get mobility lifts installed in a vehicle understands everything about it. The term "everything" includes the types that they are available in, the way they work and much, much more. Only then, it would become possible for you to get the best out of the money you invest in it. As far as these lifts are concerned, the most important thing to know is that they are present in two forms in our markets. They are –
  • The platform lift
  • The arm lifts
Each type of lift works differently as each has a different purpose. There are even different types of lifts within each of the two main groups. Let us quickly get an overview of both these kinds.

Platform Lifts

  • This version allows the wheelchair to be rolled upon it and once done; the wheelchair along with the person sitting on it is lifted inside the vehicle.
  • Depending upon the type of the vehicle, it can be installed, but the most preferred place is the backside of the vehicle.
  • According to the sellers of incline lifts, inclined platform lifts, etc., a very important thing to consider during purchasing is whether the handicapped person is going to remain in the wheelchair during operation.
  • In most cases, you’ll find this version of mobility lifts installed in public transports.
  • However, if it has been purchased for personal use, you’ll find it having a much smaller size.
  • Most of them are electric and they lift the wheelchair into the van or other vehicle, or simply lift them to be carried outside the vehicle.

Arm Lifts

  • Sellers of minivators, stairifts, etc. say that this version is designed to place your wheelchair inside the vehicle to transport it.
  • A very important is that they cannot be used when the wheelchair is occupied.
  • You can get this version installed inside the trunk of a car or SUV.
